SPS/IPC/Drives 2008 pulls in the crowds

SPS/IPC/DRIVES goes from strength to strength with 48,106 visitors coming to Nuremberg over the three days of the fair to see what the 1386 exhibitors had to offer in the 94,700 m² venue. International visitors accounted for 16% of those attending. The leading automation fair opened its doors to specialist visitors on 25 November at 9 o’clock in the morning. infoteam exhibited its wares on Stand 130 in Hall 7a. This year’s SPS/IPC/Drives saw infoteam adopt the slogan “Software – safe and reliable”. Taking a concrete example from the field of medical technology in which its SmartPLC Redundant product is used, infoteam demonstrated that where software is concerned, safety and reliability do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Specialists were able to “have a go” themselves by inducing a system failure.

Making safe and reliable software - no rocket science

“System failures can prove expensive. Software must offer safety and high levels of availability, particularly in safetycritical industries where reliability in these two areas is not just desirable but essential”, explains Dr Wolfgang Brendel, General Manager of infoteam Software GmbH. “Our software is used, for example, in medical analysis and diagnostic devices. Any failure could put people at risk.”

Automation Network well represented at SPS

Almost all the members of the Automation Network returned as exhibitors to this year’s fair, which is now Europe’s most successful electrical automation technology event. The fair’s strengths are the sheer depth of expert knowledge, the wealth of new products and the way this clearly defined area is presented in such a comprehensive manner. Furthermore, SPS/IPC/Drives is continuing to grow into a platform for establishing contacts at an international level.
